Hot Cross Buns

  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons margarine
  • 1 pkg yeast
  • ¼ cup warm water
  • 4 cups sifted flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar                        
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¾ cup raisins
  • ¼ cup candied fruit
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 cup 10x sugar
  • 2-3 teaspoons orange juice

Scald milk, add margarine, let cool. Dissolve yeast in water. Mix and sift flour, sugar, salt, cinnamon. Add fruits. Stir in milk. Knead, let rise. Shape into balls, let rise. Brush with egg white. Bake at 400 about 10 min or until light brown. Mix together 10x and juice. Glaze a cross on each bun when cool. Makes 20-24 rolls.
