- 1 c. all-purpose flour
- 3/4 c. granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp. cocoa
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. milk
- 2 tbsp. shortening
- 1 c. finely chopped nuts
- 1 c. brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 c. cocoa
- 1 3/4 c. HOT water
- Hot fudge sauce
In large bowl combine flour, granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons cocoa, baking powder and salt. Blend in milk and shortening. Stir in nuts. Pour into ungreased 9x9x2 baking dish. Mix together brown sugar and remaining cocoa and sprinkle over batter. Pour hot water over all. Do not stir.
Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 45 minutes. While cake is still warm, spoon into dessert dishes and pour hot fudge sauce over each serving. Can be topped with ice cream or whipped cream.
Variation calls for: omit nuts add 1 tsp vanilla. Bake at 350 for 35-40 min.
